A citizen-driven effort led by Pete Drew (later State Representative for district 15) the ETCDC developed improvement plans for this large park near the Mechanicsville, Lonsdale, Beaumont community center (now the L. T. Ross building). These plans would lead to the continued development of the park, which now has a pool and community gardens.

Malcolm Martin Park is a recreational park featuring a softball field, two tennis courts, and an outdoor basketball court. In the summer months, the Ed Cothran Pool is in full swing with a concession stand, picnic shelters, and restrooms. The Malcolm Martin Greenway winds around a playground and shelter in the eastern section of the park.
