A Neighborhood Gets a New Community Center and Park Upgrades

The Triangle Park Association (TPA) requested aid from the ETCDC and volunteer professional advisor, Frank Sparkman, Sparkman, and Associates, to design a new facility that would help to improve the local neighborhood and park, while acting as a center to mentor and educate local youth. The organization will be able to work from the location to facilitate and organize educational programs, community events, homecomings, and help churches and other community-based service organizations.

The site has an existing building that will be demolished, yet the foundation will be retained and used as the footprint for the new building. The TPA requested a facility that would provide a progressive face to the efforts of the organization, as well as fitting in with the existing context and improving the esteem of the neighborhood. The building itself should catalyze improvements in the community, both physically and socially.

As well, in 2013 the TPA requested the ETCDC to develop a vision plan for the F. R. Davis Park, which is adjacent to the proposed Learning Center. The concept site plan adds a new pavilion with toilets, accessible play equipment, new signage, sidewalks, and benches. TPA has received funding to implement some of the proposed improvements.
