An Inner City Community Center Gets Some Much-Needed Renovations and Additions
The Wesley House is a non-profit community center located in the Lonsdale neighborhood of Knoxville, Knox County. Wesley House describes their work as providing ‘academic, emotional, and spiritual support to 100+ at-risk inner-city students and providing fellowship and support to 28 deserving inner-city senior citizens’. The building they currently reside in was built in 1953 as Cansler School and was bought by Wesley House in 2013. The ETCDC was approached to analyze the existing building to determine needed renovations, as well as to develop a master plan for the grounds.

The plan and renderings that were developed envision several new features for Wesley House, as well as tackling issues with the current building. New walking trails, a covered entrance walkway, and an outdoor amphitheater classroom are all additions to the building and grounds. New brick was suggested to replace part of the existing front facade to help remove mold damage caused by the existing, full-height EIFS construction. These renovations and additions can help Wesley House grow and better assist those under their care, and serve the Lonsdale community for years to come.
